The Knowledge and Skills Framework has been
developed from an analysis of those competency frameworks
that currently apply to the different staff groups within
the NHS.
It links with current and new competency frameworks including:
- Proficiency standards from regulatory bodies
- National occupational standards, and
- Other nationally-developed and quality-assured frameworks

e-KSF
The NHS
e-KSF tool has been developed by the KSF Development
Group (UK) in partnership.
The e-ksf tool supports all aspects of the KSF development
process for NHS organisations. It's an internet-based system
that allows Organisations to manage the creation and storing
of KSF Post outlines, and allows reviewers and their staff
to store information about how they're doing against their
outline, and record personal development plans.
e-KSF supports the development of KSF outlines and the personal
development planning and review process, and will be used
for monitoring how the NHS KSF and development review are
put in place within NHSScotland.
In the medium to longer term, e-KSF will be used to:
- Support the principles of the NHS KSF Framework and Development
Review processes, and
- Audit how the principles are being applied across NHSScotland
e-KSF is being rolled out within NHS Scotland in partnership
with the Strategic Workforce Information
Systems Scotland (SWISS).
